Chris Cade is a freelance actor and storyteller working in museums, schools, heritage sites and community venues across Yorkshire and beyond in the UK.
Born in Hull, Chris is based near York. He trained at St.John's College, York (B.Ed Hons) and Bretton Hall (M.A. Educational Theatre) and was a co-founder of Platform 4 Theatre at the National Railway Museum (1991 - 2016).
Since becoming full time self-employed in 2005, Chris has undertaken commissions to research, write and deliver museum theatre for Barnsley, Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Redcar & Cleveland and York Museums.
Chris is a member of EQUITY and has portrayed high profile characters including A Shakespearean Actor (2019), Edward Akroyd (2018), Joseph Rowntree (2017), Captain Arthur Radclyffe Dugmore (2016), LS Lowry (2015), Henry Pease (2014), Richard III (2013), Captain Edward J Smith (2012), George Hudson (2011), Pharoah Ramses II (2010), Charles Darwin (2009), Edwin Chadwick (2008), William Wilberforce (2007) and Isambard Kingdom Brunel (2006). He also delivers performance/workshops using low status costumed characters across the centuries from Roman to modern times.
He devises educational theatre to meet curricular and interpretive requirements and clients include The Churches Conservation Trust and English Heritage as well as individual schools and museums across Yorkshire. He was a board member of IMTAL (Europe) from 2013 to 2018 and has been a regular contributor to 'Insights Europe' the journal of IMTAL (Europe) with articles published from 2006 to 2018.
He can be found delivering his own one man adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, on the Victorian Street in York Castle Museum for the 11th successive year, on the weekends of 7th/8th, 14th/15th and from Saturday 21st through to Tuesday 24th December, 2019, throughout the day.
